*crown* Columbia Law School To-Do Tuesday

Hello [FIRST_NAME],

Happy To-Do Tuesday! As a reminder, please continue reviewing your checklist in CLS Connect to keep track of your requirements. Please complete all of your compliance items as soon as possible.

Orientation Survey—Help Us Get to Know You

Please fill out this quick, three question survey to help us get to know you and finalize orientation programming. Complete the survey by Wednesday, August 5.

Connecting Columbia: A Friday for Firsts

As you begin your 1L journey, do you identify as a “first,” whether you are the first lawyer, the first professional, or even the first from your family or among your friends or network at a school like Columbia Law; or are you otherwise from a community that has been historically underrepresented in law schools? Would you enjoy taking part in a pre-orientation program where you could meet other “firsts,” and learn about how the Columbia Law community seeks to support you in 1L year and beyond? If so, please join us for our fifth annual “Friday for Firsts” on Friday, August 21. Register here by Friday, July 31, at 12 p.m. Space is limited, so register early. All 1Ls are welcome.

The Connecting Columbia Law Program is made possible by the Richard Barasch '79 Fund for Student Programming and Support.

The Professional Affairs Administration Directory

The Professional Affairs Administration's Office Directory is designed to introduce you to the career and professional advancement teams you'll work with throughout your time at Columbia Law School.

We invite you to use this directory to get to know us a little better and we very much look forward to partnering with you.

Reminder: Professional Advancement Survey Due July 31

Please remember to fill out this survey from our career services offices by July 31. This information will help our teams match you with advisers by practice area interest and help them to plan their programming throughout the academic year.

PAST DUE: July 15—Open Housing Selection

Open Selection offers eligible students another opportunity to secure housing in units that remain available after the standard selection process.

Columbia Residential will notify applicants who have not yet been officially approved of their eligibility for Open Selection. This notification—along with the Open Selection start time—will be sent at least one week before July 15. Students are encouraged to review the Open Housing Selection information in advance.

Tips for Success

  • Plan ahead: Consider your preferred location, budget, and desired amenities before this selection window opens.
  • Use filters strategically: Narrow your search to find the best-fit units quickly.
  • Stay persistent: Inventory may decrease as selection progresses, but new units can occasionally become available—check frequently, including during off-peak hours (early mornings, late nights, and weekends).
Important Notes
  • Technical issues: If you experience difficulties accessing the Open Selection page on July 15, contact residential@columbia.edu.
  • Declining an offer: Choosing “Decline” will deactivate your application. To reenter Open Selection, you must submit a new application, which may take 2–3 days to process.
For Off-Campus Housing Assistance, please visit Residential’s OCHA webpage

Due August 1—Official Transcript(s)

Submit final, official academic transcripts from all schools of higher education that you have attended, including schools where you earned credit and/or spent a semester abroad, transferred, and from which you graduated. Failure to submit all required transcripts by the deadline may result in your offer of admission being rescinded or your withdrawal from the Law School.

  • Via LSAC CAS reports: In most instances, we will be able to use the transcripts included in your LSAC CAS reports, so long as these transcripts were final copies and include the degree conferral and conferral date.
  • Via post: to Columbia Law School, Office of Admissions, 435 West 116th Street, MC 4004, New York, NY 10027-7297.
For students graduating in 2026, please wait until you can order a final, official transcript that will show degree conferral and conferral date.

Office of Student Services—July Hours of Operation

Monday–Friday: 9 a.m.– 5 p.m. EDT

Early Closure: 7/31 - Office Closes at 1:00 p.m.

Remarkable Spotlight

Mariana Newman is a reference librarian at the Li Lu Law Library, where she supports student and faculty research and selects books and electronic resources for the collection. She teaches introductory legal research as part of Legal Practice Workshop and LL.M. Legal Research and Writing in the fall, and advanced legal research as part of Advanced Legal Research Techniques in the spring. She loves to help students make the best use of library resources and learn how to be effective, confident researchers.

Fun Fact: Mariana loves walking through the Heather Garden in Fort Tryon Park to admire its seasonal changes. She also suggests visiting Fort Tryon Park and the Met Cloisters museum, a quick trip uptown on the A train, or finding another park near you to de-stress and connect with nature.
